The Kientzler family have been producing high-quality wines for five generations. In the beautiful village of Ribeauvillé, the very calm and reserved André Kientzler creates superb wines and is now helped by his son, Eric. The Domaine is made up of 11 hectares of vineyards, a third of which have grand cru status, with Riesling and Gewürztraminer being the main varieties planted. Low yields, early picking, rigorous selection and profound respect for the terroir (they are making a concerted effort to reduce their use of pesticides) make for wines with outstanding finesse and purity of fruit. Eric and André’s dedication to their craft is truly admirable and the Domaine rightly ranks among the top producers in Alsace. There is exceptional typicity of each varietal’s character across the Kientzler range. The style remains distinctive, displaying André’s craft and experience; the wines emulate his calm and modest character. All of the wines are very fine with an underlying purity and very intense mineral notes. The Rieslings show great definition even when young but age effortlessly for 10-15 years gaining weight and complexity. These wines deserve wine lovers’ attention and will not disappoint.
